New Zealand team boosts local economy

We’re working with the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) to carry out maintenance and upgrade work on two decommissioned Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) Inshore Patrol Vessels before they are sold to the Republic of Ireland. Page Content

We’ll partner with up to 30 local businesses to help deliver this project, and the contracts will range in size with a total value of approximately NZ$15 million. This means a huge boost to the local economy and will help companies get experience of working on government defence contracts.

We’ll be overhauling the engines and working on the hulls, propellers and rudders, and ship communication systems. We’ll also carry out other modifications so they are compatible with the current Irish Naval fleet.

Andy Davis, Babcock Australasia Managing Director Defence, said: “This work demonstrates how the NZDF and Babcock partnership is focussed on building long term collaborative relationships with New Zealand businesses. This will continue to deliver broader economic outcomes and provide increasing access to government defence work for these supporting businesses.”
